2018 - Martin Larcombe
Martin spent most of his younger years with his father involved with Rodeo’s and Quarter Horses, he became involved in western & Quarter Horse events and out of these experiences in these western disciplines, Reining became an interest to him.
it wasn’t long after Martin went to the US to ride with Steve Schwartzenberger & Doug Mulholland, working for sometime with Bob, Martin returned to Australia and gradually began training reining horses.
The big break came for Martin and this was going to Europe, Martin had received a phone call from Rob Lawson who had himself spent time in the states & Europe and knew of a job in Italy, Martin took this opportunity and began working with Mario Araberto. From there Martin won 4 Italian Open Futurities, 2 NRHA world Championships, 1 of these championships on a horse Red Chic peppy. After Europe Martin returned back to Australia for 5 years and starting his reining horse business. In 2010 Martin returned again back to the US with his family in 2010.
Martins First Australian futurity win was in 1991 on a horse named Ex El Belle Starr
Martin’s achievements are to many to mention in this presentation, some of his accolades include multiple Australian Derbies Championships, has been a member of 3 World Equestrian Games Teams representing Australia including this year at Tyron in the US, 2 x NRHA Open Futurity Championships, 2014 NRHA Open Derby Reserve Champion, 2015 NRHA Open Futurity L4 6th place, multiple NRHA Derby Futurity placings, NRBC Open L4 Finalist.
